My heart became hot within me. As I mused, the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue: "O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!"

1st ever You-Pick-The-Topic-Rally

For our PurdueCORPS students...I have the privilege of speaking at our Friday night shindig in a little over three weeks. I've been mulling over my chosen topic and thought that some of you might have a good idea (or even two). So, for the first time only, I'll take the first (good) suggestion that comes across the blog and run with it. Note, please, that this doesn't come from a lack of personal inspiration (I have the whole Bible to talk about!), but a curious wondering what you all might come up with. (Caveats: it must be a topic of Scriptural importance and one not totally out of my league [this narrows the field considerably].)

I wouldn't complain if you rehashed/expounded on "Christ is King Over the Arts."

Christians, Sports, and Ethics: a subject I've more interested in since hearing John Keddie speak (he's writing a book on the subject).

I'm discovering hyper-reformed ideas that amaze me. I heard this one kid believed that Christians shouldn't pretend. Ever. No fictional books or movies, no role-playing games in the classroom (that was the specific situation), etc. Apparently, fiction denies the Kingship of Christ? There are others hyper-reformed ideas out there, I'm sure (would paedocommunion count?). Oh, and the hyper-focused-on-family crowd. Anyway, lots of weird stuff out there. A heads-up and some sound reasoning would be helpful.

What about church/state issues? Reading Bradford (and others) lately, I've been interested in how they separated the functions of church and state. I've also been reading a lot about the English Civil War and the Scottish covenanters. Perhaps you could teach the college students about the Mediatorial Kingship of Christ. It seems that this historical RP distinctive is largely (not)(mis)understood in the contemporary church.

There was an interesting discussion on the Christian talk show here about the "OT God" vs. the "NT God" and how God can be loving/just when He ordered the Israelites to wipe out the Canaanites.

I felt like the talk show host and his "scripture expert" guest were pretty well stumped by the question, although they at least claimed that God did not change between the testaments - that Christ is in every way the same God that ordered the destruction of the Canaanites.

Of course, I won't be attending as it is probably a 6 hour drive for me :) if that affects your choice.
